Fonda

12 Heddon St, London W1B 4BZ

Project Overview

Fonda is a Mexican restaurant on Heddon Street, just off Regent Street in the heart of the West End. The space needed to feel vibrant and welcoming, a place that transported guests to Mexico through colour, texture, and material. We delivered the full interior build, from the distinctive checkerboard tiling through to custom-built tables, banquettes, and terracotta finishes throughout.

Heddon Street is a competitive pitch. Every restaurant on the strip is fighting for attention. Fonda needed to stand out through the quality of its space as much as its food.

The Brief

The owners wanted a restaurant that felt genuinely Mexican, not a theme park version, but something rooted in the real textures and colours of Mexican architecture. Terracotta, handmade tiles, natural wood, and warm lighting. The space needed to work for intimate dinners and lively group bookings alike.

Custom furniture was essential. Off-the-shelf would not deliver the proportions or character they wanted. Every table, every banquette, every seat had to be built specifically for this room.

Our Approach

The tiling was the most technically demanding element. Checkerboard patterns require precise setting-out; any error compounds across the floor and becomes impossible to ignore. We laid the checkerboard tiles to exacting tolerances, ensuring clean lines from every angle. The terracotta tiles in other areas were sealed and finished to handle the traffic of a busy West End restaurant.

All furniture was built to our specifications: solid timber tables sized to the floor plan, upholstered banquettes shaped to the room's geometry, and additional custom pieces that fill the space without crowding it. The joinery was done in-house, which meant we could adjust dimensions on site when the reality of the space demanded it.

Electrics, plumbing, and lighting were all handled by our team, a single coordinated effort that kept the programme tight and the quality consistent from floor to ceiling.
